How to Prevent a Pollen Allergy

One of the most common symptoms of a pollen allergy is nasal congestion. Usually, nasal corticosteroid sprays are used to ease the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. A decongestant is a pill that contains 2 different medications, which may be helpful, but it has its own side effects. A combination of both may be beneficial for some. If you think you might have a pollen allergy, a blood test can be helpful.

In the case of hay fever, it is important to understand how pollen affects the body. The particles in pollen contain water-soluble proteins. When pollen contacts the mucosa, the immune system detects them and produces IgE antibodies. These antibodies bind with mast cells in the body, which release anti-inflammatory chemicals. Histamine is one of these substances, and it is responsible for triggering allergic reactions.

Skin tests are often the most effective way to identify allergies. They introduce allergens into the skin to see if the body reacts. The test is relatively inexpensive and sensitive. Blood tests can be useful if the suspected allergens are inhaled in high concentrations or if the patient is on certain medications. In addition, blood testing may be required for children with allergies, people with a history of sensitivity to pollen, and people who have a history of severe skin conditions. While allergen avoidance is the key to controlling allergic reactions, there are also prescription and over-the-counter medicines that can be used to reduce symptoms.

Fortunately, there are several ways to prevent allergies and to minimize their symptoms. The first is to be aware of the pollen count. You can check the pollen count on the internet or through other sources, but it is recommended to close the windows during high pollen counts, especially during the early evening. Secondly, you should avoid mowing your lawn during vulnerable months, and if possible, avoid grassy areas. Finally, you should regularly clean your eyes and change your clothes.

Despite the fact that pollen is one of the most common types of allergies, you should still go outside as much as possible if you have a mild allergy. Whenever possible, limit your exposure to pollen on windy days, but it is not unreasonable to avoid it altogether. For people with seasonal allergies, being outdoors is a healthy thing, but avoiding pollen is not a good idea. It can cause symptoms of asthma, including itching and sneezing.

A doctor can also prescribe you with allergy medication. It is important to know the cause of your allergies and the right medication to take. Your doctor can also recommend a doctor or a hospital. In case you have a severe allergy, you should immediately call the ambulance. Ensure that a medical professional is available to assist you. The doctor can give you a skin-prick test and decide which medications would be best for you.
