How to Make Your Assignments and Quizzes Successful

To make your assignments and quizzes successful, you must know the conventions of your discipline. This is particularly true for those in the upper-division classes, where many students have little or no background in the subject. Students who aren’t familiar with such conventions may feel intimidated or frustrated, and this could hamper their learning process. So, it is crucial that you give clear and detailed instructions to your students. You can also ask the instructor to remind you when you have a deadline.

There are some common mistakes that instructors often make when designing an assignment. Some exam designs may be perceived as contributing to violations of academic integrity, invalid assessment, and even cheating. One such example is an exam with a low Bloom’s Taxonomy level, which is more likely to promote cheating by giving students simple questions. A higher Bloom’s Taxonomy level, on the other hand, may be more appropriate for academic purposes.

One way to make assignments effective is by creating assignments that challenge students to think and explain. Providing pointers to appropriate resources can help students get started independently. For example, students can receive lists of resources, suggestions for specific sections of a textbook, or links to appropriate websites. Ultimately, a student’s response to an assignment will be shaped by the amount of detail the teacher provides. The goal of an assignment is to demonstrate learning, so the more detail it has, the better.

Students submit their work in Gradescope. After the first submission is uploaded, grading can begin. However, it is best to wait until the due date is passed before beginning the grading process. You can also manage all of the submissions by viewing the Manage Submissions tab. This workflow works the same way for quizzes and exams. From emailing students to exporting grades and managing regrade requests, the workflow for an assignment and quiz is the same as that for exams or quizzes.

In addition to helping students prepare for scholarly work, homework can help students learn the content of the class. Studies have shown that homework can help middle-school students prepare for scholarly work. With more homework, the achievement gap may widen and put students with learning disabilities or other disadvantages at a disadvantage. As such, it is important to ensure that homework is not given in excess. If you are assigned too much homework, consider setting a time limit that allows students enough time to complete the task.

In addition to the importance of ensuring a high quality, timely completion of assignments, students must be given multiple opportunities to complete the work. The results of assignments and quizzes must be reported within seven days of completion. For major assignments, teachers may have to give additional time to complete the assignment. However, they must inform students beforehand of the due date of the project. The deadline should not be too far off.
